'Words With Friends,' an iPhone and Droid app, has been increasing in popularity among Burris high schoolers.
“I have 19 games going right now,” said Hannah Clemmons. 'Words With Friends' is just like the popular board game Scrabble. The only difference is that the bonus squares are positioned differently. The game is easy to access on your phone or iPod touch and is known for being addictive. The game also has a tendency to become a little competitive.
Alex Phipps only plays one game at a time so he has plenty of time to focus on getting the most points possible and beating whoever he’s playing. “I’m more focused on the whole winning thing than Charlie Sheen is,” said Phipps.
Alex Nancarrow plays numerous games at a time and well, wins all of them. Some people have accused Nancarrow of cheating because it’s basically impossible to beat him. “I don’t cheat. I can’t help it everyone else is horrible and I’m just good at it,” he said.
Some of the 'Words With Friends' players are guilty of playing the game during class, letting it distract them from homework, and staying up late at night just to play. Danielle Watkins isn’t quite that addicted, but she really enjoys the game. “It’s just fun to compete with people. It never gets old,” said Watkins.
