Media students attend Ball State's Journalism Day

Alex Nancarrow
On April 20, 2011 Betsy Ahlersmeyer took her Photography class and yearbook staff to Ball State University’s annual Journalism Day. This is a day when high school students from around the state come to Ball State’s campus to listen to speakers and visit various workshops for the type of publication they are a part of. There were workshops for students who specialize in writing, design, graphics, and more.
At the beginning of the day, students went to Emens Auditorium to listen to some speakers talk about journalism and what the day had in store for them. "I was very intrigued by the subject matter of the keynote speaker," said Burris junior Michelle Jones. The speaker she is talking about is David Studinski, who is a graduate of Ball State University. Studinski spoke about media and how it has been changing with new technologies.
After the presentation at Emens the students walked to the Student Center to partake in many workshops from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock. The students were able to pick which classes interested them most and participate in them. "The first class I went to was really interesting," said Burris junior Molly Boylan, "I didn't think learning about fonts would be as fun as it was, but the teacher was very enthusiastic and made it entertaining." While walking through the halls of the Student Center, one was also able to take a look at the various booths set up there which offered free items and brochures.
