Battle: LA

by Derek Packard

Battle LA is a non stop action thriller, as well as a marine recruiting video. The movie is filled with a nonstop battle between a marine ground unit patrolling the battle ridden streets of LA with mechanical aliens around every corner. The troop must do what any home marine base would do, protect the United States of America at all costs.

The troop is made of a few good men who are lead by a soon to be retired Marine ground unit commander who has had experience in Afghanistan as well as Iraq. At first many people would think that the Aliens are going to have fazors as well as vaporizers. Then your thought will turn to the idea of oh this is just another Terminator and we are just watching another John Connor special.

Mid way through you realize though that this movie wont be just another encounters of the third kind but that it has a good story line. The movie will start to remind you more of movies such as Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, and Behind Enemy Lines. Sure the story line is predictable and at points it doesn’t seem like it will end. If this is your kind of movie though you will defiantly enjoy it. If you are the peace loving pacifist, you may want to go see another movie.

Patriotic theme the team holds up is crossed with controversy in between the troops. Some believe the mission is impossible and that every one is dead. The marine commander also with holds a brutal reputation that he gained during a heart breaking incident in his tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. The continuous fighting is broken between should be heart break and moral up lifting or down lifting moments.

Overall the movie would earn a high B maybe a low A if it was lucky. There are to many movies now a days that have the same theme or even story lines. All Battle LA is is a mix between the newly released Terminator and stories such as Black Hawk Down. It’s a great guys night out movie, but its definitely not something you want to see with your girl friend if your looking for a nice date.
