Grils Tennis Preview

By: Faulkner Allocco

From 22 to 14 players the Burris and Academy high school girls’ tennis team struggled getting girls to come out for the team.

With only five returning players from last year the team welcomed a lot of newcomers. None of the varsity places have been decided, however with only two returning varsity players, there are spots to be filled. Ashley Phillhower is returning as head coach of the girls’ team. This will be her second year as head coach.

Academy Junior, Hunter McBurnett, expresses her enthusiasm for being on the team, “I didn’t have a tennis team at my old school and I have always wanted to play so I am very excited to be able too and I think it is going to be a lot of fun."

Although the success of the team is unknown this early in the season, the girls are prepared to work hard and put away some wins. The girls will hit off their season with their first match at 5:45pm on Thursday, April 7 at Cardinal Creek Tennis courts against Randolph Southern on the Ball State Campus.
